Pioneer Weekend is set to bring the sights, sounds and stories of the 1880s to life this Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June at Historic Village Herberton.
This much-loved annual event invites visitors to dress in period costume and step into two full days of live music, working machinery, steam train rides, demonstrations and traditional games — all within the surrounds of one of Australia’s most authentic open-air museums.
This year’s live music line-up includes performances by Jeanette Wormald Trio, Carinda Christie, Now or Never, Ben Wilson, Tableland Ukulele Group, Bundle of Doves and Sligo. The community choir Bella Capella will also return for performances in The Chapel on Sunday.
Fashions on the Field will be judged at 12.15pm each day, with categories for best dressed children, male, female and family. Other family-friendly highlights include a petting zoo, hay wagon rides, tin panning, blacksmithing, camp oven cooking and working demonstrations of steam-powered engines and machinery.
Owners Craig and Connie Kimberley said the event continued to be a meaningful way to celebrate the region’s pioneering heritage.
“Pioneer Weekend really brings history to life,” Craig said. “It is a great way for families to connect with the past in a hands-on, enjoyable way, and we love seeing so many visitors join in the fun.”
Food will be available on site thanks to the Lions Club sausage sizzle, Red Cross catering, Bakerville Tea House and Pioneer Camp.
