The school holidays are an ideal time to head for the hills – and the Historic Village Herberton. There is so much to see and do here that you should have no trouble disconnecting the kids from their digital devices.
Enjoy a bush walk and a picnic or head over the timber bridge to the Pioneer Camp for some traditional bush tucker of camp oven stew, billy tea and damper.
The lolly shop, toyshop and playground will inspire and delight, and a visit to the old school house will give the young ones plenty to ponder about “the good old days”.
Other fun things to do include gathering a few mementos to take home, like having your kids’ names printed on ‘Wanted’ posters or snapping a hilarious picture of them with their faces inserted in the photo board cut-out of children in olden day costumes.
Another inspirational stop is the old gaol where the ball and chain might serve as a reminder about good behaviour!
You may even get to experience a ride on the steam train. So come up and say hello and indulge your sense of mystery and history with a family day out at the Village.
